Read John 1:1-14.
Today is the day we celebrate Jesus’s life-altering entrance into this world. Hbd, Jesus! Celebrations aside, John 1 reminds us that Jesus, the Word made flesh, has been here since the beginning. I imagine, in the beginning, the breath of God rolling in and out through a churning mess, a swirling Spirit twisting and sparking creation into being. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” There was Jesus, woven into the fabric of it all. Being a human is hard sometimes, but this special day reminds us that Jesus showed up for that part too.
Pray: Creator God, on this day when we celebrate your Son’s birth, remind us that you are with us right in the middle of the messiness that it is to be human. Help us to see the spark of your presence in our own lives, and let your Word guide our lives to work toward peace in every place. Amen.
