2023 Call for Contributors

UKirk Collegiate Ministries is excited to bring you another year of Words for Waiting: Daily Devotions for Advent & Christmas. A partnership between the UKirk Collegiate Ministries Association the Presbyterian Mission Agency’s Office of Christian Formation, this free resource will once again be available as a printable PDF, and through daily blog posts right here. But we need your help to make it all happen!

We’re looking for students, campus ministers, and campus ministry groups to create the daily reflections. Neighbors from other areas of the Church are welcome to fill out the interest form as well! (Though in the event that there are more interested contributors than days in the devotional, we’ll prioritize campus-ministry-connected folks.) Once selected, contributors will be assigned a Scripture reading from the Revised Common Lectionary’s Daily Readings, then be asked to provide a half-page reflection and 1-2 sentence prayer. Visual art, poetry, and other creative reflections are enthusiastically welcomed! To see examples of previous devotions, select a year from the drop-down menu under the Home button above.

These days we have access to a never-ending stream of news, notifications, and reminders of the brokenness of our world. It can be tempting to tune out – to shut down, disengage – from pure exhaustion or for the sake of self-preservation. Honoring those true experiences, and still hoping for a more life-giving way forward, this year’s theme is Keep Awake. What are the voices that should have our attention? How can we sift through the noise to figure out and focus on what’s really important? Where might we find the energy to continue doing the work that needs to be done?

If you’re interested in contributing to this year’s Words for Waitingfill out this form by September 18. Questions? Leave a comment here!

Note: This year we’re taking a break from the Sunday Companion Guide. If this is a resource you’ve used in the past and that you’ll miss, we’d be glad to know that for the future – you can comment too.
